The dictionary spelling is memento, though many people in Kerala write momento, and both mean the same award or keepsake. A custom memento has no fixed price. Material, size, quantity and finish decide it, and at Orbiz Corp the quotation arrives together with the design.
Is it memento or momento?
Memento is the standard English spelling. It comes from a Latin word meaning "remember".
Momento is a very common variant, and in Kerala it is the spelling most people type when they search for a shop. Nobody will misunderstand it in conversation. On the piece itself, on an invitation or on a purchase order, write memento.
What does a custom memento cost?
We do not publish a price list, because nothing we make comes from a catalogue. Each memento is designed once, for one occasion. Four things move the price, as set out on our custom mementos page.
| Factor | How it moves the price | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Material | Acrylic and board cost less than solid wood, metal finishes or sculpted forms. | The same design in clear acrylic will cost less than in carved wood. |
| Size | A taller or thicker piece uses more material and more machine time. | A desk piece for a speaker against a tall trophy for an overall champion. |
| Quantity | The price per piece comes down as the number goes up. | Forty pieces for an annual day will cost less each than a single piece. |
| Finish | Hand painting, layering and individual names add work to each piece. | A flat printed plaque against a layered piece with every recipient's name engraved. |
For an actual figure you need a quotation. It comes with the design, so you see both before deciding.
Is a wooden memento costlier than an acrylic one?
As a rule, yes. Acrylic and board cost less than solid wood. The four ways we build a memento are below, with the kind of occasion each could suit. The occasions are our suggestions, not rules.
| Build | How it is made | An occasion it could suit |
|---|---|---|
| Acrylic | Clear, mirror or colour, cut to any outline | School sports day, where sixty students each receive one |
| Wood | Carved, layered and engraved | A retirement, with the citation engraved |
| Metal finish | Brass plates, gold and bronze effects | A long-service or dealer award |
| Sculpted | Modelled, 3D printed, finished by hand | A one-off piece for a chief guest or a film success celebration |
How do you keep a memento within budget?
- State the budget at the start. Our enquiry form has an optional "budget per piece" field. With it, the first design is one you can afford.
- Choose acrylic or board for large numbers. For 100 participants at a conference, keep wood or a sculpted piece for the two or three main awards.
- Order everything together. One order of 40 is priced lower per piece than four orders of 10.
- Save hand finishing for the top awards. Hand painting and layered assembly add work to every piece.
What should you send to get a design and a quotation?
Three details are enough to start: what it is for, roughly how many, and the date. Add a logo or a theme if you have one. A message as short as this works: "Annual day, 40 pieces, by 20 Nov. Logo attached."
What happens next:
- We send a design for your occasion on WhatsApp, with material options and a quotation.
- You approve it, or change the form, size, material or wording until it is right. Nothing is made before this.
- We cut, print, sculpt and finish it in our own studio in Chemmad, Malappuram.
- Each piece is named, packed and sent to one address or several.
Our mementos page states that there is no minimum order: one piece or several hundred.
What if you need one gift, not an award?
For a single personal gift, such as a farewell present from a small team, a ready design can be quicker than a commissioned memento. Our engraved wooden photo gifts start at Rs 699 with free delivery within India, and the design is still sent on WhatsApp for approval. For gifts carrying a company logo for a whole team, see corporate gifts and branded merchandise.
Questions people ask
What is a memento?
A memento is an object given or kept to remember a person, an event or an achievement. In India the word usually means the award handed over on stage: a plaque, trophy or sculpted piece carrying the recipient's name, the occasion and the organisation's logo.
Mementos or mementoes: which plural is right?
Both are accepted plurals of memento, and mementos is the more common one today. Momentos is a frequent variant of the same word, widely used in Kerala. If the plural appears on an invitation, a programme sheet or a purchase order, mementos is the safe choice.
What to write in a memento?
Keep it to four things: the recipient's name, what it is for, who is giving it and the date. For example: "Presented to Smt. Latha K., Headmistress, on her retirement after 32 years of service, by the staff and PTA, 31 March 2027." A short line of thanks can follow.
What is a memento gift?
A memento gift is a keepsake made for one occasion and one recipient, as opposed to a useful item such as a pen or a flask. It carries a name and a date, so it records the event. Awards, plaques, trophies and engraved photo pieces all count as memento gifts.
